Love and the Frustration Attraction
Love heart |
There are many relationships that do not stand the test of time. This means that couples break up all of the time. In these situations, normally there is one person that decides that the relationship is not working out. This person usually is the one to break up with the other person even if the other person wants to stay together because they are in love. The person that was dumped may begin to feel frustration attraction, which means that they begin to love the person that broke up with them even more. This can end up causing a lot of problems for the person that is still in love.
The Psychology of the Feeling of Love
Love |
There are a lot of people that work in the area of psychology that deals with love and relationships. Many of these psychologists believe that we seek out love relationships with people that resemble a parent that we have. Typically, we will have unresolved issues from our childhood with this parent. Of course, this makes it difficult for relationships to work out without you having to make the conscious decision to find someone that is different from that parent. If you do not have a parent that you have unresolved issues with, then you have nothing to really worry about when it comes to love and the person that you choose.
The Effects on the Brain in Love
I love you |
When someone falls in love, you may not know this, but it actually alters some of the parts of the brain. If you have ever wondered why you feel so good when you are in love, then this is why. The main chemical that you will find in a brain that is in love is dopamine. This is a chemical that the brain naturally produces, but it produces more of it when you are in love. The caudate nucleus in the brain keeps signaling for more dopamine, and therefore the brain continuously produces it. This is what makes falling in love feel so wonderful.
Valentine's Day and the Cupid Symbol of Love
Love |
One of the holidays that seems to be the most important when it comes to love is Valentine's Day. There are a lot of symbols that go along with this holiday like hearts and Cupid. There are many different ideas on where the symbol of Cupid came from, but most people agree that the name is derived from Chaos. Cupid symbolizes the feeling of love at its most primal beginnings. This is the symbol of desire, which is one of the main forces of love. Most relationships have started with lust, which then turned into love. Therefore, Cupid is the symbol of the beginning.
Falling in Love and Antidepressants
I love you |
There are millions of people around the world that suffer from depression. Most of these people can get through this time with therapy, but other people have to be put on antidepressants in order to live a normal life. You may wonder how this could possibly affect love. Antidepressants increase the amount of serotonin that is produced in the brain. If you have high levels of serotonin in your brain, then you may notice that your emotions are blunted. This chemical will also stop you from having obsessive thoughts about your love. Both of these things are needed if you are to fall in love.
