In many cases, when people fall in love, they may decide to
become engaged to get married. When the engagement happens, typically the man
will place a ring on the fourth finger of his betrothed's left hand. You may
think this is just a tradition, but there is a reason for this and it stems
back to the ancient Greeks. They believed that this was the finger that the
vein of love ran through. This vein supposedly ran straight to the heart. This
is the reason why we place engagement rings on that finger today. Wedding bands
are also placed on this same finger.
